Lost Gods

Drew Beatty places his first novel on our site — Lost Gods. It’s the last one of 2008!

Kweku Anansi is just another member of the African diaspora, trying to make a place for himself in his adopted home of Toronto, Canada. He dreams of better days, of a time when he could be stop running small time cons just to make the rent. He dreams of the life he used to live, centuries ago when he was revered as a god.

A chance encounter with a fellow con man with a dark and secretive past of his own, plunges them both into the dark world of the lost gods, gods who would do anything to be worshipped again. Including destroying the world, if necessary.

How far will Anansi go to reclaim his godhood? What will he give up to have true power again? The answers can be found in “Lost Gods”, a new weekly podcast novel from author Drew Beatty.

That whole “weekly” thing is really up to you. If you want it when Drew puts out an episode once a week, then you’ll be OK with the default feed. But if you get a custom feed, you pick how often you get new episodes. Great for folks who come late to the party!

    Hey John,

Sorry for the lateness of my reply! I was sure that I had responded already.

So, you can also listen to my 1st novel White Trash Land here at Podiobooks.com, and I have a short story on http://www.horroraddicts.net. If you check out my main blog at http://www.drewbeatty.com, I usually update it with stories and things of that nature.

Thanks so much for the comments, Synaptic Jam and Dariclone (are those your real names?). I am glad and gratified to hear you enjoyed the book. It was great fun to do!

  11. Juuro Says:

I love it when mythology finds its way to the mundane world. My heartfelt thanks for a good listen. I recall I had minor nitpickery over some of the science, but then, I usually have.

Read my review of Lost Gods here:

    http://podagogue.blogspot.com/2009/06/podcast-novel-review-lost-gods-by-drew.html

“Lost Gods is equal parts dark supernatural thriller, grifter tale, and black comedy. The final chapters wind up towards some of the best twists I have come across in storytelling for a long time, particularly in podcast novels. For sheer “I-never-saw-that-coming” value, this is a winner.”

  13. Drew Beatty Says:

    Hey Juuro,

Glad you enjoyed it – the science I bent to suit the needs of the story. I gave up writing science fiction because I found keeping on the straight and narrow too hard!

Thanks again rabarts for the kind words.

    Drew

Hi Drew, I loved Lost Gods from start to very creative and unexpected finish. You have quite a cast of unfamiliar characters, but they were all so well written that I had no trouble keeping them all sorted out. Good luck with publishing and thanks for presenting your work in this format.

  15. Drew Beatty Says:

    Hey Jane,

I’m very glad to hear you liked the story, and the finish. I hope you will tune in to my next book, whenever I get that finished!

    Lost Gods By Drew Beatty

I had no idea what to expect when I started listening to Drew’s book. I knew it was about ancient gods, and was very surprised with the imaginative way he saw this story.

He incorporated ancient gods into the modern world with ease and believability. I was impressed with his knowledge the ease he passed the information to his audience. I wasn’t bored for one minute.

Drew’s sense of timing and humor had me amazed and smiling all through this story. I like it and recommend it for any who want a good tale to pass the time.

  17. Shadowmagic Says:

I might be a tad on the late side, but… Even though I haven’t listened to the book, the summary reminds me a lot of Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods”. Do the similarities end there or was it an active inspiration for the author? If it’s an original story, I might give it a shot. Thanks for your reply!

  18. Sea Lion Says:

What a great book, but where’s the sequel? It’s been a couple years bud, get back on the horse! You’ve developed Ananse into a great character and your version of him should have more than one tale. Anyway, great job on both the writing and the acting-character voice work. I think this podiobook is way overdue for a couple of awards, just to bring more attention to it. Anybody reading this should be giving this book a shot.

  19. Pettclan Says:

Great story! Was nice listening to everyday life from the point of view of old gods. Also nice that even though these were ‘trickster’ gods, they still had a conscience and didn’t use their abilities to needlessly harm us poor humans. One question though: Where was Kokopelli?
