Untrue Tales From Beyond Fiction – Recollections of an Alternate Past, Book One: An Introduction To Dodgeball -or- Conception and Induction -or- How To Begin An Apocalypse

Teel McClanahan III is unleashing another serialized audiobook today. This one speaks for itself in the title alone: Untrue Tales From Beyond Fiction – Recollections of an Alternate Past, Book One: An Introduction To Dodgeball -or- Conception and Induction -or- How To Begin An Apocalypse.

Contains mature content not suitable for all readers. Book One is the introduction to this series of books which take place in a world where magic and psychic-like powers exist but are overlooked by most people, and centers on a teenage boy of remarkable magical and mental powers as he is introduced to a world that had been hidden from him his entire life by ignorance. This is the first book of the ongoing series; Untrue Tales From Beyond Fiction – Recollections of an Alternate Past.

The default feed let’s Teel dictate when you get new episodes. A custom feed puts you in control. Knowing Teel’s penchant for releasing episodes in what can only be described as an eclectic manner, I’d opt for the latter. As of this posting, he’s only released a single episode. But that is soon to change.

Best story for a very long time.

If you start this book it may take a little bit to understand what is going on. Give your self a treat a listen/read the entire book.

Teel you have a great story here and given to the right marketing could be bigger then Harry Potter (IMOP)

    Must listen for all

    Keep smiling

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The preposterous story line is comical and great fun. I am looking forward to listening to the second book. Thank you.

yes-preposterous-ALOT of Teel’s stuff is-but-he has the imagination and skill to let you forget how f’n ridiculous the situation is and just go with the story-love everything he has written

The story was decent, though the writing was a bit long winded. Most sentences were constructed of multiple “and”s, “though”s, and other poor literary habits. What really hurt my ratings for the download was the mush-mouthed, muttering narration. He sounds like he keeps his teeth clenched throughout the entire book. The reader mispronounced words occasionally, even if you ignore British pronunciations.

You should try the next one: In Book Two, the average sentence length balloons considerably. There’s a 24+page sex scene where many sentences are over 100 words long. Book Two really represents the pinnacle of my use of that particular style choice; Book One is just the warm-up, in terms of what you seem to be referring as “long-winded writing”. It isn’t for everyone, but it isn’t a mistake or an accident, either. On a related note, something I’ve been thinking about in the last couple of years, since beginning to write new books after recording several audioboooks, is how to construct a sentence where the listener can actually hear correct semi-colon usage; how to engage an attentive audience in a very precisely-articulated way, a way which illuminates the unseen (or more accurately, the unheard) within and between the words themselves.

With regard to mispronunciations, I would be glad to be corrected; it is certainly possible I still have a few incorrect formations floating around in my mind, and for any serious error which impedes communication I would be glad to go back in and fix the audio; making such adjustments shouldn’t be too much work, and would be well worth the effort.
