Checkwolf – Book 4: Failure Not Tolerated

Remy Gibson beings the wrap up of his audiobook quadrogy (?) with Checkwolf – Book 4: Failure Not Tolerated.

The fourth and final book of the Checkwolf series picks up directly after the events of the previous book. Operatives of Master, the antagonist that Checkwolf has been made progressively more aware of, kick into high gear, and Checkwolf is tasked with trying to figure out exactly what is going on. Though things look increasingly bleak, there is light at the end of the tunnel….

The Checkwolf series is a collection of stories chronicling the activities of Checkwolf’s third phase, from its mainstream recognition to its full integration.

In Book 4 are some of the darkest moments in the entire series. Expect major changes to occur. Also, the format of the book is altered slightly, as Book 4 is a coherent whole, “number 38″, if you will.

When I said he was beginning the release process, I wasn’t kidding. Right now, only the first episode is in the default feed. But Remy has historically been good about delivering a new file each week. Still, you may want the control that comes with your own custom feed. Either way, it’s free.

I’m looking forward to this one. Book 3 kicked butt and shook things up. I’m looking forward to their taking on the Master, I think it’s been building up to this since Book 1, or was it Book 2? I don’t remember when the Masteer was first mentioned. But if everything “Future Clayton” said about the Master’s plans are true, it sounds like Checkwolf is in for the fight of their lives! I can’t wait!

i really enjoyed the whole series. glad to see you are going to re-write some of the earlier stuff. It wasn’t bad, but from later installments you can tell it could have been a lot better. Your postscript was actually pretty funny.

could you go into a little bit of detail about the major differences between the checkwolf universe and ours? (west coast distaster)

additionally my fiance has family in the Peoria area.

Thanks for the kind words, Joe.

A lot of the differences in the Checkwolf universe have been detailed in the appendices to Book 2. Appendix 1, for example, goes into the formation of Kewanee, a city of seven million located in an area of the country where there is most certainly NOT such a city in the real world. Many of the differences between our world and Checkwolf surround the fact that there is another megacity in the country.

Appendix 4 of Book 2 discusses why vigilantes are somewhat socially acceptable, as well as why there are certain characters that have … abilities beyond the normal (this is also discussed in the postscript to Book 4).

#31, “Descent” (from Book 3) touches on the “west coast disaster” you mentioned. I don’t intend for this to sound insensitive in light of what has happened in Haiti recently, but in the Checkwolf universe, such a “Big One” occurred in California in 1994, which pretty much demolished that part of the country.

Kewanee, vigilantes (or “vijes”), and aliens … Yup, those are the big differences. :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the three books. I listened to the first on a whim – glad I did. The writing is great, the characters are interesting and the plots are engaging. The last two episodes discussing many background details were most enlightening – certainly got me considering listening to the books again to see the bits I’d not picked up. Thank you.

so is the ‘revamped’ book 1 up on podiobooks or is that the old one still? (been awhile since i listened to book 1…)

Thanks for the interest, Joe. My real job is as a letter carrier, and unfortunately the harsh winter has left me very little time to pursue personal projects (such as this one). It looks like it may be a few weeks yet before the “new” book 1 will be released. Of course, anybody that wants to receive notification when that happens can send me an email: remy@checkwolf.com.
