V & A Shipping
Please welcome J.R. Murdock to the site. Today he begins releasing the serialized audiobook version of his novel, V & A Shipping:
Vic and Argmon are just trying to make a simple delivery, albeit while being chased by the local fuzz. They pick up an unexpected stowaway on their planet to planet run.
Joey, the unwitting stowaway, is thrust into space and must deal with not only being in space, but with all the alien creatures aboard the SS Acid Rat.
Once the delivery is complete, Vic, Argmon, and their new crewmate Joey, are offered a double or nothing gamble to pick up a second delivey for the celebration party. They must return to Planchar in twenty-four standard hours with a shipment of beer.
It sounds so simple, perhaps too simple.
The first seven episodes are in the default feed, with more to be added quickly. I suggest you get a custom feed, so you can choose how often you get single episodes delivered to you.

J. R., I thought you might like to fix this error in the summary: “Once the delivery is complete, Via, Argmon, and their new crewmate Joey…”
Via –> Vic
As for the book, I’ve only listened to the first episode; but, so far, so good.

Don’t know why I haven’t posted before. I started listening to V&A Shipping early on through it’s iTunes feed. This is a wonderfully creative book that fills a niche that is rarely looked at these days, namely lighthearted scifi (no NOT syfy). I love it. One of the few podcasts I eagerly wait for every week.
Thanks!

Odin1Eye: Thank you so much for your comments. They mean the world to me. I like to think of my work as “Guilty Pleasure” Sci-Fi. It’s fast, it’s fun, it’s easy. no heavy lifting required.
Gail: I’m happy to be here. This will be the first of many books I podcast. I hope you’ll be around for more!

Just keep rolling ‘em out, J.R.!
odin1eye’s comments are so completely on the mark that all I need to do is agree entirely. [I'd like to say, "we can never have too much guilty pleasure," but not sure about that sentence construction.]
Anyway, I’m soo happy to hear that this is the first of many.

I spotted this while browsing for a replacement for my last Listen.
After a rough start I Really got into the story. Falsetto’s aside This is a great listen. Can’t wait to see what happens to the crew.

Hey Digamma, thank you for giving my book a try. Just like anything, it takes a couple episodes to get into it, but once the ride starts, it really gets going.
I don’t have the time to commit to a full cast, but felt compelled to do the voices. Just adds a little to the story. I’m no Tiny Tim, but I try.
Enjoy!

As a Audio book fan I have found that a Bad reading(Trying to hard on the Falsettos or a monotone voice are the main causes.) can ruin an otherwise great story. You actually weren’t that bad compared to other professional books I have in my collection. I look forward to more.

Hey Digamma! Thank you so much for the comments. I tried to keep it at a level I felt comfortable with without going over the top or stretching beyond what I could accomplish. My main goal was to enhance the words rather than overpower them. I also had no intention of doing a monotone read as I would have bored myself with the task.
I’ll hope you’ll be around for the next book. A new book with new characters. It’ll also be a hoot. WOO WOO!

JR. V&A Shipping has been a pleasure and I don’t even feel guilty! Your writing (and narration) style is so easy and laid back, that its easy to overlook the fact that the story is very well paced and tightly written. You deceptive devil you! Keep up the good work and thanks for presenting your work in this format.

Thank you so much Jane!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the story. I tried to pace it well and develop the characters enough that you don’t notice that it’s actually a story happening but just flows from scene to scene. I hope you’ll stick around for my next podiobook.

This is such a fun story. A must for all sci/fi fans. When silly and serious collide, you get V&A Shipping. Well done, JR, well done.

Well, it was good while it lasted. V&A Shipping goes on My list of favorite Podio Novels. The story was a fun and interesting listen.
Are we going to see the crew of the Acid Rat again?
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:28 am
Hey Digamma. I sure hope we see (and hear) more from the crew of the SS Acid Rat. There’s just SO much story to tell

It seems as though a great universe has been built up in V and A Shipping. The crew is unique and the story is put together nicely.

That was some great space opera. Nice work J.R.! Fun story, great characters, good differentiation on the various voices. It was pretty much a kick in the pants, and when there’s no gravity, that kick sends you pretty far.

Great book! I hope to hear more of the adventures of V & A Shipping. I really love a well written space opera and I particularly liked your voices for the different characters. I’ll be watching for more of your work. Highly recommended!

For those that have waited so long, I’m finally going to start the sequel for V&A Shipping for NaNoWriMo 2012. We’ll have to see how quickly I can get it done and out into the world!
Thank you all for the kind words over the years and thank you for your patience.
