Now releasing: Confederate Gold by George Vassallo
Please welcome George Vassallo to the site. His book is Confederate Gold:
Richard L. Cornwell, a Nashville preacher, is stunned when he hears a deathbed confession from one of his parishioners. The man tells Cornwell an amazing story that reveals the location of the lost gold of the Confederate State of America.
But the gold is only the beginning. Buried along with it are two priceless Greek statues that will unite ancient Greece and the lost Southern aristocracy. This will be a dangerous mission. Fortunately, Cornwell knows one dependable man who is always ready to assist on the toughest of assignments.
“Confederate Gold” is the newest novel by the author of “Nelson’s Payback”, George Vassallo. It continues the story of Rob Nelson, a skilled, ruthless, but sometimes reluctant enforcer of justice.
The first five episodes have been released. You can get them one at a time via a custom feed, or mainline them all at once with a default feed. More coming in both options!

Just finished this novella. The audio reading is performed well and the music in the background is a nice touch.
The writing is pretty good, though a little short on details. We are introduced to several characters throughout the story, but most of those characters don’t do anything.
For instance the sheriff could be a great character but he’s not very dynamic and we aren’t given much reason to become emotional about him.

I really liked the story, very unexpected and I love the ending. Most of all I love the two sides told and the history. Great Story George!!

Wow, so I just finished the first seven episodes and I’ve never heard such offensive material in an audio book before. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not easily offended by any means and I did listen to 7 episodes but the author’s take on immigration, gay people and African Americans is just so wrong and ignorant. First I thought it was just the characters and the story but the more I heard I began to realize that this is the author’s views. The small town with the backwoods sheriff made me never want to visit the southern USA. No wonder the world thinks of the south as a bunch of racist rednecks! “What’s the definition of a southern virgin?……” Come one.
It’s also such a blatant stereotype so as to be not funny.
I really hated the music in the background and the slow pace of the book. Story plots were dis-jointed and not explained well. Some characters had little point. I also found the dialogue unbelievable and the writing juvenile.
I’ve already deleted the rest of the episodes from my iPod.

Well, I listened to almost 4 episodes before I stopped altogether. Early on there were multiple stories, and one in particular (the northern couple arrested for speeding) was just uncomfortable to listen and I didn’t see how those scenes were needed in what was touted as an adventure story. To be as far along as I was, and the main story line had not developed much was also a negative for me.
The editing of the audio could use some polishing. There were many places where the audio repeated a word or two, or changed completely in mid sentence.
I think the author used different music tracks to help the listener discern between the different plot lines, but I find that more of a distraction.

I was really looking forward to this listen. I got my bike ready and started my ride, but two minutes into the second chapter I could not listen anymore. The background music, though I enjoy bluegrass music, was so annoying that I could not bear to go on. After reading the synopsis, before downloading, I felt it would be a great listen. I just could not go on with that annoying background music. The read (the author) also left something to be desired, although without the music I could have gotten over his lack of ability. I have listened to dozens of podiobook books, but this was one of the few I could not bear to go on. I would love to listen to this book, so if it is redone w/o music background and perhaps with a better reader I will reconsider. I read some of the other comments, and the first one that said the background music was a nice touch blew my mind! Wow! Try again please and let me know when you do.
