Now releasing The Confederacy of Heaven by Margaret R. Taylor
For her second free serialized audiobook, Margaret R. Taylor gives to you her fantasy work, The Confederacy of Heaven:
Nasan Rattlingbones was supposed to die. That’s what exile means in a post-apocalyptic Canada that hasn’t seen rain in almost two hundred years, but this disgraced clan warrior has other plans. She will survive alone in the wasteland of junipers and broken, haunted cities – just as soon as she figures out how. Enter Oscar, a strange bird who claims to be her spirit guide but can’t quite prove it. She doesn’t believe a word when he says she’s been chosen by the Stars to save the world.
Oscar may not be what Nasan hoped for in a spirit guide, but he does find her a place to stay with the rich people who’ve built a walled city around their very own reservoir. She tries to build a new life there while dogged by the memories of the botched water raid that killed half her clan.
The angel-like Stars who rule the universe reconsider Earth’s drought-curse once every century. The human race gets just one witness for the defense – and the throne at Calgary wants to send a man who will forfeit rain for universal passage to Heaven. Nasan needs to help her newfound friends stop Calgary, but she just as desperately needs to get home and face down the chieftain who wrongly banished her. Meanwhile she’s beginning to suspect that Oscar is in on some sort of heavenly conspiracy. Whether he’s telling the truth or not, she may just have to step up to the challenge and save the world anyway.

Margaret, your story is so wonderful. I love everything about it including your reading of it. Everyday I get to work I log in and search to see if you have posted more. How you came up with the characters or the names of things is amazing to me. Your story has come to life in my mind and I will be sad when it is over. I will miss everyone, even shadow wings

This story has a little bit of everything. It’s sci-fi, fantasy, post-apocalyptic, has dinosaurs, angels, great battles, love interests and more.

Kudo. Only complaint is that it seemed like a longer story compressed into a podcast. I could have listened to a dozen more episodes. Sequel??

Thanks, Barry. I don’t have a sequel in mind, but if you want to read more, you can always check out Grizelda on this site. And I’ve got another novel in the works that will probably be ready to publish in about a year. Its working title is Cannon Fodder.

What a fantastic story! I wasn’t expecting such a mash-up of science fiction genres, but man did she pull it off.
The only thing that could possibly be improved, is what barry already said. Seems like it was cut short. perhaps more time on character development/descriptions. and i dont want to give spoilers, but there could definitely have been another chapter or two at the end. I’m very happy it didn’t end with a cliff hanger, as has been an annoying theme these days with other authors. but would love to have seen some description of returning, reunions, … a tapering to help me deal with this story coming to an end.
