New release! Dark Currents: Book 2 in the Emperor’s Edge Series

Dark Currents: Book 2 in the Emperor's Edge Series by Lindsay Buroker It’s been three months since former enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon and the notorious assassin Sicarius thwarted kidnappers and saved the emperor’s life. The problem? Nobody knows they were responsible for this good deed. Worse, they’re being blamed for the entire scheme. With enforcers and bounty hunters stalking them, and the emperor nursing a personal hatred for Sicarius, it’s going to be hard to earn exoneration.

My goodness, you posted 27 chapters all at once! I was only hoping to find one or two (maybe five) chapters of “Dark Currents” posted. How am I supposed to get any sleep?

  2. Evo Says:

Put it on the slow drip, Peter. We’re making books available on our site this year with all episodes released. That gives you the choice in how you want to listen.

But I understand how the desire to chew through them all feels. :)

  3. Laith Preston Says:

Personally I like knowing that I’m not going to be chugging along and suddenly have a long wait for the next part.

But I can see the server spiking when certain authors get new stories out there.

    Adding feed… :)

  4. Josh Says:

    What happened?

I went to subscribe to this book and it says it’s gone!

  5. Mitz Says:

I was so happy to see this book launched with all chapters at once and started to listen. I came to chapter 11 and then all the chapters dissappeared! Sigh, I hope they all come up again soon, the story is really intriguing and I am completely hooked.
A chapter a week is soo booring, especially since I know they are all there, plain torture.

  6. Lindsay Buroker Says:

    Hello everyone,

Sorry for pulling the book. For whatever reason, I’m not on the Podiobooks mailing list for authors, so I didn’t know they’d changed their format and that they are only allowing us to post books in their entirety all at once. I would have put out the complete audiobook file without breaking it into podcast episodes with intros and outros every chapter if I intended to do it that way.

I’ll be posting Dark Currents, and subsequent books in the series, on my own, so that I can control how and when they’re distributed. I’m independent for my ebooks and paperbacks, so I suppose it makes sense to do this on my own too.

The books will still appear in iTunes, and you’ll be able to grab the feed on my site (lindsayburoker.com) if you’re so inclined. If you’re a Podiobooks-only person and don’t want to deal with the hassle, I understand.

Anyway, it’s my fault for not keeping abreast with the goings on here, so I apologize for inconveniencing you all.

    ~Lindsay

  7. Evo Says:

A point of clarity for the confused, Lindsay. We haven’t really changed our format. All we’re doing in 2012 is requiring authors (or producers, in this case) have all episodes completed and available before we post the book on our site.

We’re still all about serialized audiobooks, or audio books distributed in podcast form. That requires multiple episodes, but lets the listener control how quickly they can consume the content. More choices, FTW!

  8. Evo Says:

And it’s back! Lindsey opted to re-list the book. Sorry for the confusion!

  9. Lindsay Buroker Says:

Must given in to popular demand. :P Thanks, Evo!

  10. JaneAtPlay Says:

Two cents worth, from an avid listener. Evo, I love the idea of knowing that a book is complete, before diving in (and I like to listen in big gulps).

Lindsay, seems many authors release weekly on their own websites, while they’re still producing and then release the the whole thing thru podiobooks when its done (Abbie Hilton, for example). I know DarkFire does your (very excellent!) production, so you may not have the same issue, but I hope you stick with podiobooks.

I hate trolling itunes for new podcast fiction (they don’t make it easy) and although I check your website now, I never would have found you before Emperor’s Edge was released here. I use podiobooks as a “drek filter”. Its easy to use and consistent. Other than word of mouth on twitter, its my only source.

i know some authors feel their print and audio audiences don’t overlap much, but I buy plenty of ebooks from the authors I find on podiobooks. I just grabbled Deadly Games yesterday, and I’ll still listen, when its released in podcast form.

  11. Evo Says:

Thanks for your feedback, Jane. Always nice to hear real-world experiences!

  12. Aaran Says:

    Hi,

What is the link to the podiobook? Thank you.

  13. Evo Says:

Sorry, Aaran. In the back-and-forth, I had removed the link to the book that normally lives on the cover image. Corrected!

  14. Marc Paul Rubin Says:

Totally agree with JaneAtPlay though I’ve yet to find need for the iTunes Store or Twitter. I do also follow Podiobooks on Google Plus though, and hope to see them announce even more there — so long as it’s kept down to a dull roar ;->

  15. Zainab Says:

Hi! Very excited to read this (or listen). I can’t seem to
    Find it on iTunes, however?

  16. Mark Says:

    Lindsay,

Thank you for an excellent story.

Please don’t give up on Podiobooks this site has done wonders to bring some excellent authors and stories into one easy to use website that saves a lot of time spent searching them out.

As Jane says there are some good examples of authors who release weekly on their own site and then on Podiobooks.

I must agree that it makes sence for Evo to ask authors to complete recordings before they are released as there is nothing more frustrating than waiting for an episode on a stalled podcast or worse one that never is finished.

I suppose it is hard to judge how may people find you through podiobooks and or buy additional content from you. I have for instance just purchased the complete set of books and the current Audio from Tracey Falbe even though it is still being released weekly here just couldn’t wait. I have also purchased paper copies of a number of books from other authors on the site.

  17. Megan Pawlak Says:

I need to weigh-in on this issue. The podio-book feeds have long had a feature allowing their subscribers to get just one episode a day, week, or month in addition to the links for releasing the next episode manually or releasing all episodes. So even though they require authors to have all the audio complete, subscribers still have the option to get books on an IV drip so to speak. I have to agree with what other podiobookers are saying about stalled and unfinished podcasts. I’ve given up on books in the past that stalled halfway or worse 3/4 through. I found your books on the top charts, and I was so excited to see the entire 2nd book is already available. I love the characters. I have a job where I need 8 hours of SOMETHING to listen to and so I consume a LOT of audiobooks. Having the option to download the complete book is almost necessary in my case otherwise I have to fill each day with multiple books and I start getting confused. I’m glad you’re sticking around. ~goes to find print and ebook versions

This book was even better than the first. I was very sad to see it end.

  23. Cassandra Says:

Can’t wait for the 4th and 5th books to be published on podiobooks. Lindsay is a great author and I love to listen to Starla as she reads the story. Truly a great combination! I have recommended this series to my friends, relatives, and enemies. Everyone loves them.
